December Daily : build an embellishment kit

First, I have a winner to announce from Friday's stamp giveaway!
Congratulations Melissa! Email me at nicole.s.reaves AT gmail DOT com with your mailing address and which mounted stamp you would like.

Last week I decided to rummage through my scrap stash for items that would be a good fit with my December Daily kit.

Colors like red, green + aqua. Gold + kraft. An assortment of tags and labels. Lots of baggies and clips. Plus a handful of trims, twine + washi. Other than some scrap paper I had left over from last years December Daily, the only holiday themed item I have is the American Crafts roller date stamp I got at Hobby Lobby over the summer.
The Studio Calico kit is chock full of goodies and I have big intentions of using everything I can, but I knew I'd want to add a few personal touches. There is so much awesome holiday stuff out there right now, it's hard not to buy, buy, buy. I have purchased a few little things outside the kit that I haven't received yet, but I have also been exercising my willpower, that's for sure.
Something I actually 'made' were these holiday word tabs and they are SO simple to do yourself.
I just chose 9 words and typed them out in Word (Bebas Neue font at 16pt) with a few spaces in between each word to allow for punching. Cut them out to separate the words and punch out with a tab punch (I used the Jenni Bowlin Fiskars punch). So easy and fun. How cute would they be tucked behind a photo or journaling card, or sewn on the edge of a page or baggie?

Clips, clips and more clips. My faves are the "2" and "5" clips from Studio Calico. I think I'll be using them on my title page inside the album - for 25 days. I even grabbed a few regular paper clips from our office supply drawer and may use those to tie or sew on ribbon that comes with the kit. Twine would be nice too.
Another DIY I did was I stamped a generic month calendar (no, it doesn't match December, but I don't mind that it's not exact) on a few white tags. I can embellish the bottom of the tag with ribbon or washi, mist them, add another stamp image or a wood veneer, sew it or staple it on my page, etc. So many different ways to use these little guys.
Something else I'd like to do once I put my foundation pages together, is to use the scrap patterned paper to punch a little confetti, and maybe some larger circles to try my hand at sewing garland. We'll see. I also want to cut some number tags with the Silhouette, 1-25, to label each day's layout.

For now, I have everything tucked in a small felt container I got at Target a while back. I love using small baby food jars to separate like items.

Once I get my December Daily foundation pages complete, I will combine the rest of the kit with my mini kit here. In that post I'll show you how I plan to store everything for easy access during December, as I hope to work on my album nightly. This will also be the bin I dig through for my weekly Project Life layouts too, so I really want everything to be in one place.

Happy Monday + Happy Veterans Day! Have a wonderful week.

  2. Of course, thank you again (yay!), and love how your December Daily album is taking shape. The paper clips are awesome (I haven't used SC before but I did sign up for the monthly PL kit starting in January, so I'm excited to see the product). And the calendar stamp on the tags is genius.
