painted rocks

Morgan collected quite a pile of rocks, shells, leaves, acorns and pine cones during our camping trip. While we were packing up camp on our last day, I grabbed two of the bigger rocks to take home with us.

I thought if camping becomes something we do regularly in the summer, it might be fun for the kids to start collecting a rock from each site we've visited. But first we had to decorate it a little bit. I filled some old yogurt containers with paint, grabbed a couple paint brushes and Morgan, Parker and I headed outside to paint their rocks.
Morgan loved it. Of course. And so did Parker.
Except for when I blocked him from putting the paintbrush in his mouth. This is what ensued :
Man, he's still cute even when he's having a hissy fit. Alas, Mommy ended up painting most of his rock :
And here is Morgan's creation :
So yeah, we stole rocks from the campsite for the sake of art. Not sure how we might display them yet. Right now they are sitting on their shelves in their bedrooms. I wrote their names on the underside as well as the date and where the rock is from. Maybe once we have a few more (years) under our belt I will think of something crafty to do with them.

Hope you are having a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

  1. Cool idea. Too bad Parker got upset. :( You're right tho, he is a cutie even when he gets all worked up.

  2. Way cute idea sis! Figures that when he "painted" with food, he never stuck his hands in his mouth, but now that its real paint, he wanted to try it. Poor guy...
