Block Party

Block Party is live at Studio Calico.
JAN-PROJECT-LIFE-Kit-v3
The first Project Life kit was so fun to work with. I loved using a little bit of everything in this layout. Of course, the stamp set was a big favorite, as well as those diecut labels.

One thing I was incredibly impressed with was the weight of the paper for the journaling cards. It's nice and thick - thicker than the cards in the core kit that I'm so used to. And if you don't care for the design on the front, just flip it over and use the simple grid pattern on the back.

I completed Week 48 : November 26 - December 2 with just the PL kit :
Left side :
Right side :
The card kit is awesome too. Those 6x6 paper pads always make me happy and it coordinates well with the Project Life kit. I used a combination of the PL kit and card kit to make a closing page for my third and final album for 2012.
I wrapped up the year by asking my family (and myself) what their favorite memory of the year was. Love Parker's response - playing with his twin cousins, who he calls "2 Ellis" ;)

As well as an opening page for my first 2013 album.
The Project Life kit came with some number journaling cards that I used (with the help of a geotag card) to write out '2013' through the center of the layout. The result is bright + simple. A fun way to start a new album + a new year!

Close-ups + more details are in my gallery here.

While there are no additional Project Life kits available for purchase this month, you can join the waiting list to become a subscriber as soon as more kits become available. I know I am already looking forward to the February kit!

First off, I want to thank you all for the congrats and warm welcome to the Studio Calico team. I am so very excited about this opportunity, and 2013, for many different reasons.

One Little Word : LESS : December

Last week I wrapped up my One Little Word mini with the December prompt :
Ali made a nice pdf for us to journal on as a way to reflect on the year, and our word. I didn't feel like I had a ton to write that hadn't already been said before in past months, so I just kept the "what I want to remember" part of her pdf and used that to close out my mini.
She is done. And full. You can see all of my minibook pages from this album here. I'm ready to say goodbye to less + move on to a new word for 2013. I've taken this formal class the last two years, but haven't committed to taking Ali's class again next year (though she will have new prompts, which is fun!).

I did, however, sign up for Elise Blaha Cripe's new self-paced class at Big Picture Classes called I Choose. I am a list-maker + a goal-setter, so I think this will be a really fun alternative. I love how Elise used her word choose for 2012 and set monthly goals for herself. I've already read her pdf's and watched the videos twice and I'm pretty geeked about it! Excited to change it up a bit.

How about you? Are you new to One Little Word? Thinking about taking the class in 2013? Do you have a word in mind?

Project Life : Week 49

Week 49 : December 3-9

Just a simple share this week. Last month I mentioned that I'm going to change it up from my usual 2-page layouts, to just a single one-page per week spread because I'm also doing a December Daily album. I've read a lot of people doing both projects, but aren't sure what to put in each album. All I am doing (or trying to do) is keep the holiday related topics in the December Daily, and the everyday things - funny stuff the kids say, what we ate, receipts, lists, etc., in Project Life. I am using one Design F page protector per week through the end of the year - to cut down on the time spent working on it and the pressure to fill two pages. This style is a little different than Design A in that it has one 4x6 pocket and the rest are 3x4.  Here's how I used it for Week 49.
No real kit (or rhyme or reason) of products this week. I just used the same supplies I have out for my December Daily, which is mostly the Studio Calico kit, so it looks a little festive. Before December began, I made a few "Week in Review" journaling cards using one of my stamps to note a few highlights of the week, which is mostly Christmas related. I'll probably use one of those each week this month as well.

Here are a few close-ups. I need to stamp on what week this is on that Week in Review card, since I'm now noticing I forgot to do that in this layout (!) :
3 weeks to go and I'm so excited to start a fresh new year with the Studio Calico Project Life kit!

Project Life has become my preferred method of scrapbooking. If you are not familiar with Project Life, click here. If you are new to Project Life, I have a round-up collection of tips and favorite layouts I've shared here. And, all of my 2012 Project Life posts can be found here.

Introducing...

This is seriously the highlight of my year. I am so geeked to finally share that I am a part of the 2013 Studio Calico Project Life Creative Team.

I can hardly believe that my name is amongst all of this talent. Check out the list!
If you were not aware, Becky Higgins, the mastermind behind Project Life, made several big announcements a couple months ago. One of them was that she was teaming up with Studio Calico to create a monthly Project Life kit.

Studio Calico asked if I'd be interested in joining their team, I screamed said YES + now I can finally talk about it!

If you aren't familiar with how the Studio Calico kit club works, each month on the 13th at midnight, they show some sneak peeks of next month's kits - a scrapbook kit, a card kit, several add-ons and now, the Project Life kit. Tonight is sneak night for the January kits and this is a little glimpse of what I did with the very first Project Life kit.
Fun, right? You can see more sneaks of all of the January kits here.

The full contents of the kit will be revealed and available for purchase on the 28th and you can get more info about subscribing to get your very own Project Life kit each month here. Of course, with most new things come a lot of questions. I know I had a ton. Here is a fantastic thread on the Studio Calico message board that answers those questions about the new PL kit.

And with that, Happy Friday to you! If you are new to my blog, hello + welcome! I am so happy you are here! If you'd like to see a little bit more of me, my scrapbooking style, and the projects I've been working on lately, you can see my 2012 Project Life posts here, including a round-up post I wrote earlier this week. I run a small Etsy shop, prompt, full of Project Life inspired stamps. I've also been working on my December Daily album and you can see my progress so far here. And last but not least, you can always see what I'm up to on Twitter + Instagram. I'm nicolereaves pretty much everywhere.

Have a great weekend!

shop update : closing for the holidays

This week is your last chance to get stamps from my shop in 2012. I'll be closing for the holidays on Sunday December 16 and will reopen (and restock) sometime in early January.
I have a handful of holiday stamps left, ready to ship immediately, if you are looking to add a handmade touch to your holiday gifts + packaging, or prepping thank you notes. If you are doing Project Life next year and are looking for a fun sampling of stamps to try, the bestseller bundle is a popular choice.

I'm admittedly still working on my own holiday cards. Things have been a smidge crazy here, in a good way. Hoping to get those out by the weekend. Fingers crossed.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

December Daily 2012 : Days 6 - 10

I'm back today with my December Daily update - the 6th through 10th. You can see the 1st through 5th here.

December 6 :
You can see the front side and how I stitched in the embellishments in the page protector in my previous December Daily post. The backside here is the infamous Starbucks coffee sleeve. My holiday fave - the Peppermint Mocha.
The right side is an envelope that Marcy Penner designed as a Silhouette cut in the 25 days class at Studio Calico. I added some star cutouts along the bottom edge and cut the envelope out of dot embossed Bazzill cardstock. I plan to cut another one in vellum to use later this month. Love it!
Instead of using eyelets and twine to hold it shut, I used an old 7 Gypsies piece to keep the envelope flap down. Inside the envelope is a letter to Morgan + Parker. You can see through the cutouts the red patterned paper strip I added to the bottom of the letter.
December 7. Mark had a party at the office so the kids and I spent the evening with each other. Dinner of their choice followed by ice cream and Rudolph.
Lots of layering of embellishments on the left side. Seems to be my theme throughout this album.
And the right. I didn't think I'd be adding the date diecuts I made every day but they've turned out to be a simple touch that adds some consistency through the album.
December 8. A couple weeks ago, Mark designed an awesome 18-point star to hang over our Christmas tree. This weekend, he started putting it together. It should be ready to hang after it's fully dry by the end of this week. My little architect is always sketching or planning something. Love seeing his designs come to fruition.
The left side. Labels for journaling and vellum diecuts to draw a little more attention to the photo. I ended up making it a black and white because the colors were a little bright and distracting.
The right side is another star transparency.
You can see it a little better as you turn the page.
December 9. Mark put the train, which originally belonged to my grandparents, under the Christmas tree.
Left side is the back of the transparency. I just backed what was on the front with the same elements on the back.
And the right side. The December Joys banner is from Ali Edwards (link at the end of this post) and the journalling was added to the photo before I printed it. Before I slipped it in the page protector, I added a few clear rhinestones and a vellum snowflake to the edge.
December 10. This morning I made another pot of simmering potpourri for the stove. I've been testing a few recipes and this one was pretty yummy. Fruity and spicy and perfect to keep warm during our holiday festivities.
The green plant/leaf-like cutout was handcut from some old Hambly paper (you can see the bigger pattern on the next page).
The aqua Basic Grey alpha came with the December Daily kit from Studio Calico and I'm loving the size of these letters with the page size. Here I used them to follow the curve of my bowl and add a page title.
The right side was a chipboard page that I covered in diagonal strips of patterned paper.
The Merry + Bright was a Silhouette cut designed by Ali Edwards for the 25 Days class. I cut mine in iridescent vellum and stapled it right to my page.
Just about halfway through. 2 weeks left. How are you hanging in there?

The vast majority of my supplies came from the Studio Calico December Daily kit, but I'm including links below to the other products and tools I'm using for this project. If I am missing something, please ask! You can see my cover and foundation pages here. You can read about the embellishment kit I made to supplement my kit here. Most of the printables and diecuts were provided with the Studio Calico 25 Days class.
