around here

We are wearing hoodies, cozy socks + new shoes.
Parker is talking + singing a lot. I just love his sweet little voice.
Morgan is drawing a lot. Pictures of Santa while wearing her bathing suit no less.
They have already chosen and are wearing their Halloween costumes around the house. Dress-up + role play is big here.

I am fighting a cold. Or maybe it's seasonal allergies.
I am not taking anything for it. A combination of being too lazy, not knowing what to take + feeling like it will pass on its own.
I am consuming large amounts of tea to soothe my sore throat.

The leaves are just beginning to change colors in our yard.
I'm anxious to burn a new candle.

We are finding a new rhythm + forming new routines with Morgan in school.
She loves school.
I am enjoying my 'get busy' time while Parker naps + Morgan learns.
But I also cherish those days she is home + we get to be play and be lazy.
We are not very quick to change out of our pj's on those days.

I love Instagram.
I am sending out oodles of happy mail + get so geeked to see it in action.
I have a lot of ideas for holiday goodies in the shop. I can't wait to see which of them come to fruition.

I am incredibly excited about this weekends crop with my mom + sister. Doing my favorite things with my two favorite women. Yup. Excited doesn't quite sum it up.
I'm building a kit from my stash to work on our Hawaiian honeymoon album. 8 years ago!

I'm not a big TV watcher, but I'm so happy Parenthood + Up All Night are back on.
I fall asleep thinking about the cup of coffee I'll enjoy the next morning.
I'm looking forward to turning the calendar next week.

This post was inspired by Ali Edwards invitation to share a "currently", "right now" or "around here" blog post or scrapbook page. If you are not already subscribed to her free weekly newsletter, I highly recommend it.

Project Life : Week 38

Week 38 : September 17-23

A fairly ordinary week here, if there is such a thing.

Pretty quick and simple. Lots of stamps, some Thickers, washi and a handful of embellishments were what I grabbed to be a part of my spread this week. I'm finding if I just take out a few supplies I want to use, instead of everything, then the layout pulls together fairly quickly. These were a couple of my favorite cards :
I used some of my new stamps, as well as my Studio Calico favorites :
Right side :
The entire right column was from the weekend. So happy to get lots of Mark in this week. ;)
Poor Parker. Does not like that carousel at the zoo. I had to snap proof of it before grabbing him from Mark before the ride started :
Thank you so much for looking! If I forgot something or you'd like more details, just ask.

less + slowing down

Last week I got stuck in one of those uncomfortable spots where I just didn't want to do anything. I had grand plans to work on and finish a couple projects that have been lingering around here, but instead I was unmotivated to move. I was feeling very blah (to put it lightly) and slipped into a funk where I started comparing myself to everyone else. Other Project Lifers, other Etsy shop owners, other mothers, on and on. And man, that funk just sucks.
Within the next 24 hours I started to get sick - stuffy head, extremely tired and achy. "Well even if I wanted to, I'm certainly not going to get anything done feeling like this" I thought. So instead of pushing myself to do anything significant, I did nothing. I went to bed at a decent time. I vegged on the couch (which Mark will vouch for never happens). I drank lots of tea and zoned out. And I tried to remind myself that this too shall pass. The congestion and the feelings of not good enough.

I am a champion list maker. I crave crossing things off my list daily and am always looking to see what I can tackle next. Doing nothing really isn't a part of my vocabulary so while I knew in my mind (and on paper) what my goals were for last week, I just wasn't feeling it at all. The must-do's eventually got done. But a lot got rolled over into this weeks list. Some I erased completely.

When I wrote out this week's list, I actually made a "could do if I feel like it" list as well. The not-that-important stuff that I need to do at some point, but this week I'm giving myself permission to not feel obligated to cross it off.

And as far as the comparison game goes, well, I'm still working on that. Sometimes it's not as simple as just stepping away from the computer or putting the phone down. For me, doing something completely different than I'm used to (like sitting and doing nothing) and getting away from that 'scene' that brought on the funk is helpful. It might be for a day, it might be for a week. This time, I think just acknowledging and accepting that I wasn't feeling good enough helped me get over it a little quicker than usual. And now I can start this week with fresh eyes and ideas. I can appreciate other people's strengths and focus on what I can do well.

Project Life : Week 37

Week 37 : September 10-16

This week : was a big week. Morgan started preschool + I was a guest on Elle's Studio blog. It was the 11th anniversary of 9/11. I enjoyed one-on-one time with Parker and we made semi-homemade pizzas for the first time as a family.

One insert this week. I love the simplicity of this combination of a 6x12 page protector with Ali Edwards layered templates. It is so easy to copy and paste text from a blog post into these templates. Add a couple photos, print and done. This time I edited the post I wrote about Morgan's first day of school :
With a little scrap paper tab on the edge :
On the back I slipped in a card a very sweet friend sent. :)
