Project Life : Week 12

Week 12 : March 19-25

I hit a bit of a creative wall this week with my Project Life album. I didn't have the time I usually do to work on my layout and that left me frustrated and lacking scrappy mojo. On Monday, I think it took me one hour to do one 3x4 slot. Lame. I set it aside and ended up finishing the whole thing in just over an hour last night. I thought, there was no way I was going to fall behind. Yeah, I can be kinda stubborn like that. :) Even if that meant my layout was a little less creative than previous weeks. It's done and I'm moving on.

This week : I stayed very busy fulfilling shop orders and I noticed my blog reached 300,000 hits (mostly because of the 20 Questions albums. That's a pretty big milestone for a no-name like me!) Spring officially began and the weather was beautiful. Morgan was thrilled to be able to wear a tank top and shorts outside. Mark and I had a date night in Ann Arbor and most of the other photos I documented were from everyday stuff that I haven't shown yet.

Full spread :
Close-up of left side :
This photo of my breakfast was missing something, so I wrote in white Sharpie around the edge "& I always use way too much syrup!" and I love how it turned out. Writing directly on photos can be so nerve wracking! The kraft NOTED is a Silhouette cut :
I slipped one of the word bubbles for my 20 Questions albums in the 3x4 pocket and added a little note about how busy they have kept me lately :
HH is a texting shortcut that my brother-in-law started with my sister when he was "heading home" and we've adopted it too. The quote bubble is a Silhouette cut and I printed a screenshot from my iPhone with all of Mark's HH messages from the last week or so :
Building Lego scenes occurs daily here and this is one Morgan and I made last week. I wrote a funny story, which kind of reads like a news headline, on a Martha Stewart for Avery shipping tag. I stapled down the loose string right on the photo to keep it out of the way :
I love incorporating my Instagram photos in Project Life. Some days I find myself reaching for my phone more than the SLR! I added a little cluster of old + new embellies on this photo of Morgan. Love using up that old stuff :
Close-up of right side. How cute is that top left paper? It's actually from the cover of the latest Paper Source catalog :
Mark and I had a date night in Ann Arbor and went to the best BBQ place. It was fantastic! I kept the drink coaster from my album (actually I swiped it off the table before the waitress could even put my drink on it!). The wood banner is new - from My Mind's Eye (link below) - and I looped a small tag through the hole to add more notes. I wasn't sure where to write my journaling about our dinner so I added it to the edge of the coaster. I'm still full (and craving more) just thinking about it :
The FRI (for Friday) journaling card is a Silhouette cut and I stapled on another small Instagram of my coffee grinder. Yummy fresh beans! I slipped my grocery list (written on Morgan's Hello Kitty paper, heehee) in it's own pocket. Easy :
I wrote directly on the basil photo - I love filling up that white space. The owl paper on the photo with Parker is a post-it from an old Lotta Jansdotter set I bought in NYC years ago.
Simple enough. I suppose there are going to be a lot more weeks like this where I'm not feeling it. I just need to keep pluggin' along. I think I would have more regret about not finishing it than not having made it super cute. As I've said before, there's always next week. How are you other Project Lifers doing? Any loss of interest or frustration? Falling behind due to lack of time? I enjoyed this post from Michelle Wooderson about time spent on Project Life and came away with some great tips to carry on. I'm actually thinking about starting to work on it a little bit here and there during the week instead of all at once at the end of the week. Not sure if that change will work for me or not, but it's worth a try. I'd love to hear what others do - work on each week all in one sitting or a little bit at a time during the week.

Thank you so much for looking and feel free to ask any questions in the comments below!

5 favorites for Friday

It's been a very busy and fast week here. I haven't spent much time playing online, but I do have a few favorite posts to share from the past few days :
  1. Elise wrote a really good blog post this week about expertise. Love when she said "I am an expert at getting stuff done." And boy is she. It is a very good read - whether you are creative or crafty or have a lot on your plate. She proves that you don't have to be an expert, or pick and choose from the things you want to do. You just have to start.
  2. Erica designs some very cool digital scrapbooking goodies for 2peas and every once in a while she shares a freebie on her blog. I LOVE the days of the week cards she posted this week. I will be printing them pronto!
  3. My friend Jenny linked to this article on her Facebook page about the Cardstar app. Apparently it lets you use your smartphone to scan in your loyalty cards (clothing and shoe stores, grocery stores, bookstores, office supply stores, you name it) so you don't have to carry them in your wallet/purse. Lots of other perks too that I want to check out. This it totally going on my less list soon!
  4. Do you need anymore Project Life inspiration or another reason to start your own? Geralyn Sy shared what she's done so far with her album and it is ah-ma-zing! She is doing it her own way, in an 8 1/2" x 11" format with baseball card page protectors and it is so damn cool. Very colorful and I love that she is documenting each month, as opposed to each week like it seems most people are. There is a lot of love in each and every pocket and I really adore that.
  5. And I'll end with something funny. If you are a parent, especially one to young children, you may get a kick out of this blog and this post. Ah, the joys of changing the diapers of a toddler. :) Sadly enough, this is the stuff that makes me laugh these days.
I've got info on another goodie too. Anyone local to Metro Detroit, Kelly Purkey is teaching two classes at Scrappy Chic in Livonia on Sunday, April 29. I signed up for the mini album class and am SO geeked. Anyone else in?

Have a great weekend!

Project Life : Week 11

Week 11 : March 12-18

This week : We had more beautiful weather, which resulted in several bike rides and a trip to the zoo. My mom came over to visit and I worked on another shop restock of the 20 Questions albums. Mark continued to work on our master bathroom, which has turned into a mild episode of Renovation Realities. I honestly didn't take many photos and I hardly took any notes. But I still managed to have enough stuff to fill up a two page spread and a small insert. This isn't the first week that's happened but it always seems to work out.
And can I just say how funny/cool I think it is that Morgan + Parker love to look at this album. They love seeing themselves, pointing things + people out, remembering this + that. At just 3 + 1, my little ones are enjoying this album too. When I was taking pictures of this week's layout, Morgan asked "Can we see it from the beginning?"

Full spread with insert : click on any photo to enlarge :
Close-up of left side. I LOVE that conversation between Morgan + Parker (on the blue Overheard card). That is the kind of stuff that I love including in this album :
I got a bunch of goodies from bananafishstudio last week and used quite a bit of it this week. The pink ledger circle below is a big favorite :
More Silhouette cuts and sewing. It was in the 70's last week and my goofy kids were playing in their snow gear. Just because :
Front of insert - photos of our trip to the zoo :
The days of the week journaling card is from the Turquoise core kit :
Back of insert - photos from our bike ride + ice cream trip on Wednesday night. I used some Hambly paper, new Dear Lizzy vellum + a milk cap from bananafishstudio. These are my absolute fave :
Oh, and these number flaps rock. I used it as a tab on the insert instead of my usual file tab :
Close-up of right side. I could make an album just of Morgan's daily drawings, writing and proclamations of love :
In the photo below, I used the plastic clip from our bread as ephemera on this journaling card - haha! It had the date on it, I had to save and use it. :) Thursday ended up being a crazy day - lots of good + bad. Our power was out for a couple hours (bad), which led us to McDonald's for lunch (good - I had my first ever shamrock shake. Crazy, right?), I sold Parker's infant cloth diapers to a new mama (good) and Morgan had two potty accidents (bad). I can't remember the last time she's had one, so it was very weird and unexpected.

The blurred card next to it is a screenshot from the iMapMyRide app showing the bike route we took on Wednesday. The bike rub-on (if you can see it) was adorably perfect - some old Basic Grey found in my stash :
Mark attempted to install a waterproof membrane on our shower floor before laying the tile (this coming weekend) and it was a major fail. He was so ticked that it wasn't sticking. Plus, he opened our tile boxes and the guy at the tile shop ordered the wrong color. Awesome. He was pretty stressed out about it. It was a bit like an episode of Renovation Realities. But not quite as dramatic. :) The peach colored "paper" in the pocket below is a piece of that waterproof membrane :
And that's it for Week 11. I used a ton of stuff this week, both new + old. I've included everything I could find online in the links at the bottom of this post.

I am linking up with Kristina at One Happy Mama and Jessica at The Mom Creative.
